Today is the start of the Hungry Ghost Month. And according to the Flying Stars chart it is also the month when the Monthly Stars happen to move into the same location as the Annual Stars in the original LouShu Palace placement. This translates into the energy that the Star represents in the sector of the house this year will be at its strongest. What this means is you will need to pay attention to a couple of things if your main door, bedrooms or kitchen happens to be located in the Southwest, East or Center of the property. And West too, if your main door happens to be situated here.
- Southwest – you will need to pay close attention to your health particularly those of the elderly, small children and persons with existing medical condition/s especially if that’s where the main door or kitchen is
- East – you will need to pause, take a deep breath or two and think twice before doing or saying anything that may result in serious negative repercussions especially if this is where the main door or bedroom is
- Center – you will need to keep this area quiet and calm at all times
- West – if this is where the main door is located it is a good idea to careful of your valuables and make sure your locks are sturdy and of good quality
The good news is, this month you will want to concentrate your household activities in the Northeast, North and South sectors of the property for a boost on wealth-related matters like promotions, salary increments, money making opportunities, etc as the Auspicious Stars will also be at their most prosperous in these areas! Congratulations if your main door or work area happens to be located in either of these sectors.
++ The Most Important Days to watch for are 15th August, 24th August and 2nd September as both auspicious and inauspicious energies will be at their peak ++
This period will last from 7th August to 4th September 2013 so it will be a very good opportunity to make full use of the highly prosperous and auspicious energies for furthering and fulfillment of your goals and aspirations.
But outside of the property is another matter altogether.
It is said that during the Hungry Ghost Month, the doors of hell open and spirits of the deceased will return home to visit with loved ones but those without families to go back to for whatever reasons will wander the streets until the month is over. This is why performances are staged and large bonfires of paper offerings are burnt. It is for these homeless wandering spirits. Sometimes, on a smaller scale, paper offerings will be burnt along the street, at the corner of a road or in a small open field. A typical offering will consist of joss sticks and candles with fruits and sometimes paper flags stuck into the ground and the usual joss paper burning.
Although the Hungry Ghost Month is a mainly Chinese Taoist religious event (though some Buddhist practice it also), BY NO MEANS disrespect the practice by stepping or kicking into the offerings, accidentally or otherwise and especially at night or even if the offerings had been there for a couple of days. Always walk around and not over any burnt offering, even if there are only ashes left. Also DO NOT decide to bring home any of the flags placed there just because they look interesting. And since we are on the subject, try not to wander around till very late at night particularly near dark, deserted or forested areas.
On a similar matter, typically most people will not move house during this period for fear unwittingly inviting in unwanted guests looking for a place to stay but if you need to shift or move into a new house (but especially an old, empty one or even if there’s a current family moving out) during this month, make sure you do it on a very auspicious day and hour and have a house warming party with lots of friends and relatives on the same day. Have a house blessing according to your religious practice will be a good idea too.
Having said all that, I would like to add that readers living in western or non-Asian countries would probably not need to worry about the Ghost Month but hey, stranger things had happened.
